ACTS Theology Institute

Words of Greeting

Thank you for visiting ACTS which is committed to theological education and research for the sake of evangelization of Asia and the world. Theological Research Institute, which was established in 1984 to supervise the theological-faith movement of ACTS, continues to promote this movement as it seeks to preserve and transmit the theological heritage of ACTS.

The founding purpose of the Theological Research Institute is related to ACTS’ interdenominational background. Inaugurated in 1974 as an international, ecumenical theological research and educational institute, ACTS is distinct from other denominational seminaries advocating their own traditional theological line of thinking in that it was established on the “theocentric” and “evangelical” educational ideology and the vision of “evangelization of Asia.” To this day, while publicly advocating its mission-oriented evangelical theology, ACTS has operated with openness to all Protestant sectors and denominations

Thus, from its founding, the ACTS faculty and students were diverse in their denominational and theological backgrounds. The professors in the department of regional areas of mission are from various nations of Asia, and the professors in the departments of theology, missiology, education, counseling, and social welfare, in general, have received their degrees from the West, such as the United States and Europe. The diverse theological and cultural backgrounds of the faculty demand a genuine efforts toward consensus and unity within the school.

Especially since the modern western theology and Christian education have incorporated as their fundamental tools the theories and methodologies which have been influenced by historical criticism, it is necessary to evaluate those potential faculty appointees who have studied abroad of their theological stance in line with ACTS theological position, as well as to ensure that the entire faculty is in agreement with the essential evangelical theology and missional commission. It is such tasks that Theological Research Institute has been supervising, while promoting “ACTS theological-faith movement.”
